Cat Health Care For Beginners: Getting Your Cat
June 18, 2010 on 10:09 am | By admin | In News and Society | Comments OffGetting a cat is incredibly exciting, but it also signals the start of your responsibility for cat health care.
You can get a cat from several different sources, including direct from a breeder or from a cat rescue centre. When you are buying a kitten you should ask to see its mother and check if she looks to be in good health and that she has a good temperament. Doing so could save future cat health care problems.
You will need to decide whether or not to get a pedigree cat or a moggie. Only a tenth of the cats in the UK are pedigrees. Many people are attracted to the idea of having a pedigree cat but the reality is that they are sometimes prone to cat health care problems. In general, moggies suffer much fewer cat health care disorders and live happier, healthier lives.
You also need to be sure that teh cat you choose is right for your family. If for example you have boisterous children, a timid rescue cat might not be the choice for you and a lively kitten may be better.
For many people, getting a kitten is a priority, but do consider one of the older cats in the UK’s many rescue centres. They are very loving animals and giving them a happy home life would be a great thing to do. Also, cats from rescue centres generally come having been vaccinated and checked over by a vet, ticking off one thing from your cat health care list of things to do!
