When close to graduation, the college student is often faced with the uncertainty of securing a job. Sometimes a lucrative job opportunity opening will have so many applicants that standing out in a sea of job applicants must take ingenuity, hard work and sometimes time spent volunteering. It is no longer enough just to have a high grade point average when competing for prime jobs. Having an international internship on a job seeker’s resume might mean the difference between an entry level position, and a high paying lucrative career opportunity. Finding internships can be challenging for the college student, however, there are many excellent strategies that they can employ in their quest to secure one.

One of the best ways to start searching for an international internship is to visit the website of Office of the Consulate in the country where the student would like to begin his volunteer internship. There, the student will be able to access information on any available internships and volunteer international opportunities. In addition to the Office of the Consulate, chamber of commerces in the community where the student resides or attends college may have associations with businesses that have affiliations with companies that offer the college student volunteer opportunities and internships.

Another great resource for the college student hoping go garner an international internship is to seek information at any number of local government offices. These agencies might not have listings of opportunities listed on their websites, however, when contacting them via telephone or e-mail, the student can request a list of international agencies that they could contact for additional information. Many government agencies are more than accommodating when it comes to assisting the college student in gaining information regarding volunteerism.

Finally, if the college student is financially able, he might want to consider travelling to another country in an attempt to gather information on applying for an international internship. In addition to seeing the country of their choice, the student will gain valuable experience of travelling abroad. Even if the trip does not result in an internship, foreign travel is a positive addition to the college student’s resume. Volunteer opportunities abroad are plentiful, however, the college student may find it too much of a challenge to seek them out on his own. If this is the case, he can search online for companies that specialize in helping students find the right internships for them in countries of their choice.
