The Benefits Of Having A Genuinely Caring Government
June 21, 2010 on 4:12 am | By admin | In News and SocietyMy best friend from the UK just came yesterday to greet me a happy birthday. Mark works for a non-profit organization that addresses the needs of abandoned children. Despite being two years older than me, he looks as if we have the same age. Boy, was I so happy when he told me that he finally found the one. He now has a girlfriend, who lives near their place. Mark even showed me her picture. Guess what? She is gorgeous, plain and simple. Must’ve been worth the wait, I said. He agreed.
Most of the time, they look after these poor abandoned children in their shelter. He says that some of them are dying because of malnutrition when they were found. Mark says that each day is fulfilling as seeing them restored to full health is a joy to be seen. On rare occasions, they even experience the real parents looking for their children in their institution with so much regret in their eyes for leaving these angels behind. You can’t always blame them, though. Some of them just cannot raise their own kids. That’s why Mark and his colleagues advise these parents to claim income support for themselves to help me them get by. They even refer them to agencies that offer benefit advice to get the most out of their benefits.
I can’t help but wish that my country would offer that same kind of comprehensive social security program for its citizens. Unfortunately, it’s a long way to go before our social programs here are reformed, social security will be guaranteed, and the people will finally feel the benefits of good governance and genuine public service.
